Constructed of gilded bronze with multi coloured enamels, consisting of a Romanian Cross with blue enameled arms, the quadrants joined by finely detailed gilt eagles, the obverse with a central red enameled medallion bearing a gilt monogram of Carol I, surrounded by a ring of blue enamel with a gilt inscription of IN FIDE SALUS (IN FAITH IS THE SALVATION), in turn within a gilt ring bearing green enameled oak
