Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension, the obverse with a raised rightward facing profile of Duke Carl Eduard, circumscribed by name and title, topped by a royal crown, the reverse with a central Saxe Coburg and Gotha coat of arms, topped by an inscription of FUER VERDIENST (FOR MERIT), above a banner bearing an inscription of TREU UND
