Instituted 1 May 1937. A circular medal constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a Maltese cross with a left facing national eagle with outspread wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons between each arm, the reverse bears the inscription Deutsche Verdienst Medaille, measuring 38. 05 mm (w) x 43. 30 mm (h), with suspension ring on a red ribbon with white and black stripes,
