Constructed of gilded bronze with multi coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a central oval plaque bearing a raised depiction of Generalfeldmarschall August von Mackensen, situated within a border bearing an inscription of WAFFENRING DEUTSCHER KAVALLERIE, flanked on each side by enameled NSDAP style flags, the reverse with a single visible rivet securing the obverse applique in place, with a clip hinge and horizontal
