This map accompanied John F. Kennedy's book of the same name. As you can see, the map is designed to show the diversity of the USA through ethnic caricatures a German man in lederhosen, a Chinese man in California drinking tea, a Russian Jew with a menorah, etc. Oddly there is only one black person
